Financial Advisors: 5 Ideas for a Most Productive Summer

By Ray Sclafani | June 4, 2013

At ClientWise, we have observed an interesting pattern among successful financial advisors. They don’t “rest” during the summer months. For many, the opposite is often true.

In fact, there is one advisor who we know who consistently has his best month of the year in June. Each and every year.

What’s his secret? It’s pretty simple really. And it’s not much of a secret.

He approaches the summer with a growth mindset.
His motivation is not stunted by a belief that a summer slowdown is inevitable. He approaches the summer with the attitude that he will look at every opportunity for growth…and he makes it happen.

He consistently makes a schedule and sticks to it.
He creates daily, weekly and monthly calendars to keep track of his ongoing tasks and to-do lists. He allocates time for each item and stick to that schedule. He makes lists for everything.

He focuses on results.
He’s not grinding it out, working 12-hour days. He’s concentrated on his goals and outcome.

He has fun.
Because he’s eliminated a lot of the fat from his day, he has time for other things. He spends time with his family, connects with friends, maintains his physical health and well-being, and strives for a proper work-life balance.

He does it his way.
Over the years, he’s found how he works best by exploring and experimenting with new behaviors that improve his productivity and efficiency. He’s always trying new methods. He keeps what works, and discards what doesn’t. Over time, he’s developed processes and behaviors that are uniquely his own.

It’s not rocket science really. It’s a combination of many qualities: optimistic self-belief, self-discipline, accountability, and a recognition that how he spends his time is really his choice.

There’s no question that summertime is full of distractions, good and bad. It is easy for financial advisors to lose focus, postpone goals, or set the bar low in June, July, or August. What this one financial advisor has done is to flip summer on it’s head and challenge himself to stay dedicated and committed to being as productive as possible.

I trust this helps.
